Post Modernism is a development of and reaction to the result of Modernism, thought of being the most controversial movement. The main principles of Post Modernism were contradiction and complexity, with designers producing an ‘aesthetic of urban apocalypse’. The aim was to out do the Modernists and produce more colourful, brighter and more imaginative designs, but over the years it has been described as everything from ugly to superficial. The Super Lamp is made of fiberglass and part of the Memphis group and was exhibited in one of the groups first displays. The bright colours and interesting shape drew alot of attention, challenging the seriousness of the design world . The lamp is classed as Postmodernism as it drags away from the normal and expected lamp design.
